Smolensk Region Governor and “Quadra – Power Generation’s” General Director Discuss Modernization of HPP-2 and Further Development of Region’s Heat Energy Complex
Alexey Ostrovsky, Governor of the Smolensk Region and Semyon Sazonov, General Director of PJSC “Quadra – Power Generation” have discussed the upcoming modernization of the city’s largest heat source – Smolensk HPP-2 (heat power plant)* as part of a regular business meeting in Smolensk.
Semyon Sazonov told the Governor, who earlier had supported the project to renovate the outdated equipment of the plant, that HPP-2 was actively preparing for the upcoming work at two turbine units included by the Government in the program of renovation of generating facilities of thermal power plants with an investment amount of nearby RUB 6 bn.
“Since today, a group has begun to work, which will deliver both the design and implementation of the turbines replacement projects. It is important to foresee all the nuances in a timely manner, since these works are technically more complicated if compared with construction of new facilities. The modernization of the turbines will extend the life of the plant and ensure the reliability of heat supply that Smolensk needs today,” said the General Director of “Quadra – Power Generation”, adding that competitive procedures for the procurement of main equipment were already in the process of implementation.
The Governor, in his turn, noted that investments in the heat and energy complex would help not only to improve the quality of heat supply, but would also have a positive effect on the development of the entire Smolensk. Alexey Ostrovsky emphasized that in recent years “Quadra – Power Generation” had gained the reputation of a reliable partner of the city and the region.
The parties also noted that the heating season was trouble-free and this was a natural result of “Quadra – Power Generation’s” investments in the city’s heating network complex: over the past 5 years, they exceeded RUB 1.3 bn.
* Within the framework of the implementation of the governmental program to modernize generating facilities of thermal power plants, Smolensk HPP-2 will go through replacement of two turbine units by more powerful and modern ones: No.3 of 110 MW in installed capacity and No.2 of 105 MW in installed capacity. After modernization, by 2025, the installed electric capacity of Smolensk HPP-2 of PJSC “Quadra – Power Generation” will have increased by 16%.
